NOTARY PUBLIC COMMISSION REGISTRATION
The Trumbull County Bar Association is the official provider of Notary Public registration and renewal for Trumbull County, Ohio.
The Trumbull County Bar Association can process Notary Public Applications* and Renewals* for residents of Trumbull County, Ohio.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR BECOMING A NOTARY:
To become a Notary for the State of Ohio, the applicant must be a resident of
the State of Ohio, County of Trumbull, who is eighteen
years of age and be of good moral character. You must be registered to
vote in your current name and address. If you are not
registered. please contact the Trumbull County Board of Elections (330) 369-4050
to find out how to register. If you have been convicted
of a felony, you must provide a copy of the charge and disposition, or your
application MAY be rejected.
WHAT IS A NOTARY PUBLIC?
"A Notary public will have power throughout the State of Ohio"
A Notary public may perform the following duties:
* Administer oaths or affirmations
* Certify acknowledgments
* Take and certify depositions, and other instruments in
writing
* Issuing subpoenas in the taking of depositions
* To receive, make and record notarial protests
NEW APPLICATIONS
When you decide you want to become a Notary Public, your
first step is to come to the Bar Association to fill out an application* and
pick up the manual. YOU MUST APPLY TO BE A NOTARY IN PERSON! We will
not release any applications* from this office.
You may accomplish that Monday through Friday from the
hours of 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. & 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. (Please call
the office for any changes to hours. This office has limited staff and
hours are subject to change!) You must bring in a valid Ohio ID
card or driver's license THAT SHOWS YOUR CURRENT ADDRESS. If your
ID does not show a current address, you must provide
proof of address in the form of a utility bill, bank statement, etc.A $15.00
fee is payable at the time of application*, and must be in the
form of cash or
check (payable to the Notary Public Committee). After studying the
book, you must call the Bar
Association to
schedule an appointment to take the test. Testing is done
on WEDNESDAYS ONLY, between regular notary hours,
by appointment only.
There will be no additional fee for testing.
Once you pass the Notary test, we will issue a form to obtain your Notary
Certificate. You must take this completed form to the
Trumbull County Common Pleas Courthouse to obtain a Judge's signature.
Once signed by a Judge, you will mail the form to the
Ohio Secretary of State office to obtain your certificate, along with $15.00
check or money order. Your Certificate will be mailed to
you from the State office within one to two weeks. Once you receive your
certificate, you must take it to the Clerk of Courts Office
in the County Courthouse to record it. There will be a $5.00 recording fee
at that time. A NOTARY CERTIFICATE IS NOT VALID UNTIL
IT IS RECORDED. (You are not a Notary until your certificate is recorded
and time-stamped by the
Clerk of Courts Office!)
Once your certificate has been recorded, you may order your Notary Public stamp
and seal at any office supply store and begin to
notarize.
RENEWALS
You must reside in Trumbull County, Ohio. You must come into the Bar
Office between the hours of 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
(Please call the office for any changes to hours. This office has limited

You must bring in a valid Ohio ID card or driver's license

current Notary
Certificate. If you do not have your certificate,
the staff will be required to do a records search upon your arrival. If
your ID does not show

payable by
cash or check (payable to the Notary Public Committee). You may apply for renewal 30 days prior to expiration.

not notarize any documents on or after your expiration date, and may
apply to renew up to five years after your expiration date.***
Once you complete the Renewal application*, we will issue a form to obtain your Notary
Certificate. You must take this completed form
to the
Trumbull County Common Pleas Courthouse to obtain a Judge's signature.

***Any Notary certificates that have been expired for a period of 5 years will
have to proceed as if applying for a new application and
retest.
CHANGE IN NAME OR ADDRESS:
A Notary Public has 30 days to notify the Secretary of State and the Clerk of
Courts of any amendments to your Notary
information (name, address, moving out of state, etc.) See below:
